Jesus
It is breezy and cool and April. The sun is going down over the chemical plants. The sky is pink and orange. My grandfather has urged me to close the window soon. It’s going to be a cool night.
If Jesus were here, I don’t think many people would like him. I like to think that I would like him, but that is not likely. I would think he is crazy and that the miracles he performs, some slight of hand. I would boast that I could do the same tricks, if taught.
Life would be more frustrating for him now than it ever was with the Pharisees. We wield the sound bite. And a Jesus sound bite would sound ridiculous. I am the son of God would be heard in all the houses at news time. Ridicule and sanctimonious outrage would ooze across America. What a nut job. What an ass.
As someone who considers herself part of the smart crowd, I would probably like some of the things he promotes, like wealth redistribution and stringent environmental protection policies. It’s how I feel about most liberal politicians - nice rhetoric, nicer if you lived it. But then, he would be living it. He is Jesus and perfect, but I would assume he has a sordid love life and is hiding something by eschewing all romantic relationships. I would assume pedophile.
